About the event

The HBCU Week Foundation is holding a College Fair for students interested in learning more about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). The Fair is Friday, September 22, 2023, at the Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington, DE.

The Appoquinimink School District will transport interested juniors and seniors from their high school (Appoquinimink, Middletown, or Odessa) to the HBCU Fair in Wilmington and return students to their high school before the end of the school day. There is no cost to attend, and lunch will be provided for students at the HBCU Fair.

Juniors and Seniors interested in attending the HBCU Fair, must have a parent/legal guardian complete this permission form https://forms.gle/HcDxjT7spXbvGyDC7, AND submit a pink emergency card to the nurse at their high school. Even if a pink emergency card was submitted last year or in the past, a new emergency card for the 2023-2024 school year must be completed and submitted to the nurse's office. Students will be ineligible to attend the HBCU Fair in Wilmington, and required to remain at school if both the permission form and the pink emergency card have not been submitted by Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

At the HBCU Week Foundation’s Fair, most colleges will offer an on-the-spot acceptance process for high school seniors. Seniors should come with proof of the required SAT/ACT score and their unofficial transcript. Seniors could be admitted into college on the spot and receive a scholarship. Since 2017, more than 6,000 on-the-spot acceptances have been offered, and over $47 million dollars in scholarships have been awarded directly from the institutions on-site.

Questions about attending may be directed to Ashley.LoCasto@appo.k12.de.us. For more information about the HBCU Week Foundation, visit: https://www.hbcuweek.org/.
