About the event
September is National HBCU Month. Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) offer a unique experience for students from all backgrounds. At our Fair, you will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from several prominent HBCUs. They will demystify the college planning process with personalized guidance about applications, financial aid, internships, and mentor support- while offering a window into the pride and tradition that define an HBCU experience. Admission to the Fair is FREE, and open to parents and students in the Appoquinimink School District Community in grades 8-12.
Additionally, High School Seniors may receive on-the-spot admission decisions from Delaware State University, Cheyney University of PA, and Lincoln University. Interested seniors must apply to the college at least 48-hours before the Fair, and bring their transcripts (unoffical are acceptable) to the HBCU Fair.Â
Reasons to consider an HBCU experience:
- First-rate education
- Caring professors and faculty
- Engaged student body
- Diverse population
- An alumni network that operates like an extended family, providing powerful linkages and career opportunities
- Scholarships, grants, and overall affordability
- A celebration of culture, connection to history, and the chance to continue the legacy
